The Addictions Certificate increases a student’s knowledge around addiction, including substance abuse and non-chemical addictions to better serve those in need. Offered through Carson-Newman’s College of Professional Studies, this fully online 12-credit hour undergraduate certificate is designed for those seeking a specialization, addiction counseling certification, or state licensure in the field of addictions by offering the following courses:
- Foundations of Addictions Counseling
- Special Topics — Service Delivery and Coordination in Addictions
- Special Topics — Focus in Juvenile Offenders
- Field Experience
This program is ideal for individuals looking to pursue addiction counselor certification and gain comprehensive addiction counseling training. The coursework covers various aspects of addiction treatment and behavioral health counseling, ensuring that students are well-equipped to address drug addiction and other substance abuse issues effectively.

The Field Experience course will require bi-monthly meetings, either in person or virtual, with program

Students who complete the free online application will be required to submit the following for
admission:
